Smallwood Plaza
Case Study
Fiber optic technology helps Smallwood Plaza keep its 700 residents connected to the Internet without worrying about slow speeds or loss of service. With Internet connections in each bedroom, Smallwood knew that top-of-the-line infrastructure was going to be key to maintaining proper connectivity for its residents.
“From a customer service standpoint, fiber optic technology just couldn’t be beat,” said John Jacobs, co-owner of Smallwood Plaza. “Our usage is monitored 24/7. If Smithville sees our resources spiking, they call us, and with a few mouse clicks they are able to increase our bandwidth in a few seconds. We take pride in providing outstanding service to our tenants, and this is just one way we have been able to afford the quality of life that our residents expect.”
Smallwood Plaza’s internal backbone is also composed of optical fiber, meaning there are no weak links in the building’s infrastructure.
“Fiber is totally redundant and fault-tolerant. Setting up this same level of bandwidth with copper would have been a lot more costly,” said Jacobs. “We would have needed to install multiple copper pipes plus a redundant set of copper that would have lied ‘dark’ and not used unless there was a problem.”
